Tree safety

Are you concerned about the safety of your trees, or the safety of a nearby tree? Are you wondering if the tree is a risk to you, your building, your family, your employees, or the general public?

Many – most? – of us appreciate the benefits trees bring to an area, but when the question of safety arises, it can be difficult to filter out our protective feelings and make a rational assessment of the situation. This is where we come in.

We can provide a sober, objective, non-sensationalist appraisal as to whether a particular tree is safe, and as to whether it poses a significant risk (which is not necessarily the same thing).

We draw on our experience gained over many years in the field of tree safety. Our consultants have inspected hundreds of trees in private gardens and public open spaces and have had the honour of advising the Crown at several London properties. On behalf of insurance companies, we have investigated accidents involving trees.

We are accustomed to making tree assessments in wildly differing settings, from open fields to densely packed apartment blocks, with their very different risk profiles. Where required – for instance, for large estates – we make repeat inspections over months and years, to keep abreast of any developing risks.

Calling us in by no means implies that the tree in question is automatically doomed. Even trees with decay or defects can often be safe enough to retain for many years—but they require careful evaluation. Some defects leave no option but for the tree to be removed in order to protect human life. We make the appropriate recommendation for the individual tree, using the latest field-proven technology, such as the ‘Picus’ and ‘Resistograph’ decay detection devices. We can also use, when appropriate, specialist tree stability assessment technology.
